Best Things to Do and Top-Rated Tourist Attraction in Delft

Delft lies on the River Schie between Rotterdam and The Hague, its picturesque Old Town ringed by canals and home to many churches and old houses.
Best Things to Do in Delft and Top-Rated Tourist Attraction: Nieuwe Kerk, Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles, Oude Kerk, Prinsenhof, Delft City Hall.

Nieuwe Kerk

In Delft’s roomy Market Square (Markt), the lofty New Church (Nieuwe Kerk) is, truth be told, anything besides new. Worked in the vicinity of 1396 and 1496, this marvelous church’s Gothic pinnacle rises 108 meters over the huge square, offering extraordinary perspectives and lovely tolls from its seventeenth century chimes.

Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles

This superb attraction provides a fascinating look at the history and production process of Blue Delftware, which is hand painted to strict, centuries-old standards.

Oude Kerk

While the Nieuwe Kerk is not really new, the Oude Kerk (Old church) is not that much older! Constructed in 1246 around 100 years before the new church, the Oude Kerk has a distinct leaning tower that stands at 75m tall. The tower was rebuilt in 1450 in a style characteristic of the Coastal Gothic movement so popular in northern Europe, and is notable for its distinctive four corner turrets around the pyramidal roof.

Prinsenhof

This historical museum features a plethora of information and artefacts relating to the Dutch Golden age, together with information about William the Silent and pottery. Secularized after the Reformation, it was the residence of the Princes of Orange until the seat of government moved to The Hague in the 16th century.

City Hall

On the west side of the Markt is the Renaissance Delft City Hall (Stadhuis). Remade in the seventeenth century on the site of the first thirteenth century Town Hall, this noteworthy structure holds one surviving segment of its forerunners: the fifteenth century stone pinnacle known as Het Steen, luxuriously improved with pilasters and models and a little peak with a figure of Justice. Inside features are its numerous abundantly enriched rooms, including the Orange Gallery and the Council Chamber, alongside fine works of art from the sixteenth to eighteenth hundreds of years.
