Brasserie Konrad

At Ski Lodge Engelberg’s on-site restaurant, Chef Jonas Bolling conjures up extraordinarily good New Nordic cuisine that’s as pretty as a picture and perfect for refueling after a tough day on the slopes (the three-course skier’s menu is a steal at Sfr59). If you’re not a hotel guest, be sure to reserve a table in the high season.

Mt Titlis

Central Switzerland’s tallest mountain, Mt Titlis, is known for the world’s first revolving cable car. This was completed in 1992 and is still one of the few on the planet. It’s just the last leg of a breathtaking three-stage journey. First, you board the TITLIS Xpress from Engelberg (1013m) to Trübsee (1800m) and on to Stand (2450m). Finally, in Stand you board the Rotair (only the cabin inside revolves) for the passage over the dazzling Titlis Glacier.

Yucatan

Engelberg’s après-ski heavyweight is this lively joint opposite the train station. Mega-burgers, fajitas, quesadillas, Thai curries and caipirinhas fuel parties with DJs, bands and jiving on the bar.

Engelberg Monastery

The Engelberg valley was once ecclesiastically governed and the Benedictine abbey was the seat of power. Now the resident monks teach instead of the rule, but their 12th-century home has kept its grandeur. Rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1729, it contains rooms decorated with incredibly detailed wood inlays and a baroque monastery church. A 4 pm tour is available from mid-June to early October regardless of group size; at other times, a four-person minimum may apply.

Spice Bazaar

This Indian restaurant at the Hotel Central gets rave reviews from both visitors and locals, and serves up all sorts of favorites, such as Badami Chicken (Sfr29.50), Tandoori Mix Grill (Sfr40) and Swiss-Indian fusion like Spice of Life Fondue (Sfr24; minimum two people).
